Handling / Palletising

Following abrasive cutting, a robot system takes over the automatic removal of heavy pipe samples and scrap parts. A magnetic gripper picks up the parts from the roller conveyor and places them in different target containers depending on their classification. The new solution integrates directly into the existing machine control system.

Project highlights

  • Heavy-duty robot for pipe samples up to 142 kg
  • Magnetic grippers with sensors for component detection
  • Sorted placement into multiple target containers
  • Dynamic transmission of pick-up and drop-off coordinates
  • Pipe lengths from 50–1,600 mm
  • Pipe diameters from 50–200 mm

Application & machining processes

  • Removal of samples and scrap parts from the roller conveyor
  • Classification-dependent storage in defined containers
  • Coordinate transfer from the existing machine control
  • Optional manual labelling

Operating & control concept

  • Integration into the existing PLC
  • Communication between robot and machine control via an AGS module
  • Touchscreen handheld pendant for operation and service

Safety concept

  • Integration into an existing safety fence system
  • Sensor-based component detection
  • Safe load handling equipment and defined surfaces
  • Automated braking mechanisms for operation and maintenance

Result

  • Faster removal after the cutting process
  • Ergonomic relief for operating personnel
  • Reduced handling errors
  • Flexibility for changing pipe dimensions without retooling
