Solution
Welding

A robot-assisted welding cell enables automated MAG welding of complex fan components with high variant diversity. The system was extended by a robot linear axis and combines offline programming, automatic path correction and alternating operation of the processing sides.

Project highlights

  • Welding robot with 2,100 mm reach
  • 5-axis tilt-turn positioner with 1,000 kg load capacity
  • Water-cooled MAG welding technology
  • Linear axis for large components up to 1,410 mm diameter
  • CAD/CAM offline programming
  • Automatic torch cleaning and wire cutter
  • Designed for a high variety of components

Application & machining processes

  • Clamping large fan impellers on a fixture
  • Component selection and transfer of the offline program
  • Automatic path correction to compensate for tolerances
  • Robot-assisted welding process
  • Loading on one side while welding takes place on the other

Operating & control concept

  • Touch panel outside the cell
  • Selection of components and process parameters
  • Robot teaching pendant for setup and service
  • Offline programming for new variants

Safety concept

  • Protective enclosure with anti-glare shield
  • Light barriers and secured access points
  • Operation outside the welding area

Result

  • Reproducible welding quality
  • High flexibility for changing component geometries
  • Reduced non-productive time through parallel setup and welding
  • Digitally prepared programs for fast variant changes
