Humanoid Robots: Hype, Reality, and the Question of Real-World Benefits 
The InnRaum³ keynote afternoon at Techno-Z Ried/Innkreis on May 19 focused on new technologies, practical applications, and dialogue between industry, research, and technology enthusiasts.
As a company with a strong focus on technical innovations, AGS, represented by CEO Walter Kohlbauer, was part of the program. With his many years of experience in automation and robotics, his keen spirit of inquiry, and his engaging presentation style, Walter explored the topic “Humanoid Robots – Hype vs. Reality” from the perspective of a custom equipment manufacturer:
– practical
– cost-effective
– and with a focus on real solutions for industry and small and medium-sized businesses.
The central question was not: Which humanoid robots should be used?
But rather: For what kind of work do you actually need a humanoid robot?
After all, humanoid robotics becomes particularly exciting where tasks are difficult, monotonous, dangerous, or harmful to health in the long term. In logistics, manufacturing, or service environments, new robotic solutions can provide support in the future where flexibility, endurance, and adaptability are required.
The reason for the humanoid design: Many workstations, pathways, tools, and processes are designed for humans. If retrofitting the environment would be too costly, a humanoid robot can be a viable option in situations where implementing traditional industrial robots or custom solutions would be difficult due to spatial constraints.
At the same time, one thing remains clear: The hype is real, but so is physics. 
A robot doesn’t have to look impressive: It must grip securely, work reliably, fit into existing processes, and make economic sense.
